Newark Academy | 12/14/2022

The Newark Academy girls’ fencing team is eager to get their season underway with a home match on December 16. Last year, the team ended with a 6-4 record and a third-place finish at Districts. The team is looking forward to working to build on that success under the guidance of new head coach Ed Lisovicz. Coach Lisovicz comes to Newark Academy after spending six years as an assistant coach for the boys’ and girls’ varsity fencing programs at The Pingry School. He learned HEMA techniques at the Historical Fencing Society of York while in college and looks forward to working with the Newark Academy squad. The Minutemen will rely on squad captains Inchara Hosanagar ’24 and Jamie Shen ’24 and NJIFA All-State Third Team - Foil selection and team captain Isabela McNeilly-Anta ’23 for leadership and navigating the season with a new head coach.

This season, the team will compete in Tri-County Fencing. Competitors will include Columbia, Livingston, Governor Livingston, Montclair, Montclair Kimberly Academy, West Essex, Millburn, Oak Knoll, Kent Place McNair Academic and West Orange. The team opens up its season at home on December 16 at 4:15 p.m. against Montclair.
